Department and Program Technology Requests 2012-2013
Due Wednesday, March 20, 2013.
Dear Department Chairs and Instructional Program Leaders,
As you know, the Academic Senate Joint Information Services Committee solicits requests for new or
upgraded instructional technology from all instructional departments and programs each year. The
Committee then prioritizes the requests and recommends items for purchase the following academic year.
Instructional technology refers to computer-related equipment and software used to facilitate online
or classroom instruction. Instructional equipment needs that do not fall within this definition should be
referred to Erica Leblanc:
Leblanc_Erica@smc.edu.
Please use the attached forms to itemize and prioritize your critical needs. There are two forms and an
information sheet attached:
We recommend that you discuss your technology requests with Steve Peterson at x4183 before
submitting them. Both of the attached forms must be completed and returned electronically to
Peterson_Steve@smc.edu by
Wednesday, March 20, 2013. Departments will be notified of the
Committee's actions by e-mail at the end of the Spring Semester.
As a reminder, all full-time faculty computer requests are submitted to department chairs and/or program
leaders. A separate e-mail was sent out to all full-time faculty with instructions on how to submit a request.
(See below)
ATTENTION: If you have a technology request that is very urgent and cannot wait until next year, please
contact Jocelyn Chong (
CHONG_JOCELYN@smc.edu), as soon as possible. This could be either hardware or
software. There are limited resources available to address instructional computing this year.

Full-Time Faculty Computer Requests
Due Wednesday, March 20, 2013
Dear Colleagues:
I am writing on behalf of the Academic Senate Joint Information Services Committee. We are preparing
our annual prioritization of all instructional technology requests and need faculty input regarding office computers.
We now need to identify full-time faculty who:
a. have not received a computer and have a need for one, or
b. have a computer that is no longer adequate to meet their instructional needs.
Should you have such a need, please forward your request to your Department Chair, Coordinator, or
Faculty Leader in your department anytime between now and Wednesday, March 20, 2013. We will try
to address your need in a timely basis, so please feel free to send your request early.
Include the following information in your request:
1. Your specific software requirements, beyond Microsoft Office and Internet browsers.
2. A brief statement of the limitations of your current computer, e.g. limited processing speed, insufficient
ram or hard drive space, constraining monitor, etc.
We recognize that office computer usage has evolved. For many of us, a computer tethered to a fixed location
is not the best solution. There are other options that may address our needs and provide greater flexibility.
Mobile appliances have become ubiquitous on this campus. Smart phones, tablets, or laptops may offer a
solution in ways we could never conceive. If a traditional desktop computer is not really addressing your needs, please state that in your request, and specifically identify the appliance that would fit your requirements.
Thank you.
