Music Concerts

Unless noted otherwise, concerts are held in The Broad Stage or in The Edye, both located at the SMC Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Santa Monica Blvd. & 11th St., Santa Monica. Advance tickets for concerts with an admission charge may be purchased online (, by phone at (310) 434-3005, or in person at the SMC Theatre Arts Box Office (Theatre Arts Complex, SMC Main Campus; limited hours). A modest service charge applies. Tickets may also be purchased at the door 45 minutes before event start time. ​

Seating is strictly on a first-arrival basis.

James Martin, Director. October program—highlighted by concertmaster Andrea Sanderson performing Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Lark Ascending—includes the Thomas Tallis Fantasia, Stravinsky’s Suite #2, and Schubert’s Symphony #3. November concert showcases youth soloists and includes performances of Bach’s Suite #3 (Air for the G string) and Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations.

Kevin McKeown, Conductor. October concert features an exciting mixture of both traditional and new music written for the ensemble. December concert rejoices with music of the season to bring cheer to all, and features a very special guest conductor—a local middle school student—winner of the annual SMC Wind Ensemble Essay Contest. All ages are welcome!

Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker Ballet

The SMC Symphony and SMC student dancers partner once again with the Westside Ballet for its annual holiday Nutcracker extravaganza. Come see the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Prince, and all the other wonderful characters in Tchaikovsky’s classic come to life—with falling snow and a Christmas tree that grows—in a theater where every seat provides visual and audio delights for all ages. Produced with support from Santa Monica College, the SMC Public Policy Institute, Associated Students of SMC, and the City of Santa Monica. Please for information and to purchase tickets. Preview tickets, limited to members of the Associated Students of SMC and their families, are available in the AS Office (Cayton Center 202).
