About the Center for Teaching Excellence

The Center for Teaching Excellence is funded by the Title V - Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) Program under the U.S. Department of Education.  The title of the Title V-HSI grant which was awarded to SMC is Building Foundations for Academic and Career Success.  The aim of this project is to support low-income, Latino, and other traditionally underrepresented students as they pursue their academic and career goals.

At the heart of this grant will be SMC's new Center for Teaching Excellence (The Center), which will offer an annual Faculty Summer Institute, quarterly seminars for all faculty, departmental workshops that target career-specific improvements in math, English, and content specific-courses, and customized individual and small group support.

In late September of 2015, the Center for Teaching Excellence relocated from its temporary home in the lower level of the SMC Library to its permanent location in the new Media Services Building, next to the library off of Pearl Street. Our official Room number is now M104, and we would love for you to come by and see your new Center!
