There are many community orchestras, but there is only ONE community concert band.
Director Mike Corrigan welcomes you to join Santa Monica Colleges' Emeritus College Concert Band. It is the only community band around the Santa Monica and Westside area.
We give several concerts during the year at the Broad Stage of Santa Monica College's Performing Arts Center. Over the years, the band has grown and now has a membership of 65 musicians ranging from players in their teens to those in their 80s.
About Mike Corrigan
Mr. Corrigan has been a music educator in the state of California for more than 40 years. In addition to being the director for the SMC Emeritus College Concert Band, Mr. Corrigan is the band director at Santa Monica High School, where he instructs four concert bands, as well as the high school’s marching band, and jazz band.
Mr. Corrigan has served as president of the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, as well as the California Band Directors Association. He frequently judges bands and orchestras at festivals throughout the state, and is a head judge for the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA), Field Adjudication Committee.
Among his recognitions, Mr. Corrigan is the recipient of the Honorary Life Member Award (1990) from the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association; the Distinguished Service Award (2004) from the California Band Directors Association; Citation of Excellence (2004) from the National Band Association, and recognized as a member of the Legion Of Honor (2004) from the John Philip Sousa National Foundation.
We are grateful to have Mike as Director and Conductor of Santa Monica College’s Emeritus College Concert Band.
