Off-campus Access Information

Your SMC Student Network Account: Why You Need It

With your free SMC student network account you can:
  • Use Library databases from off-campus
  • Use computers in the Library computer lab and other computer labs on campus
  • Use an SMC student e-mail address
  • Use SMC as your Internet service provider (ISP)
  • Access eCompanion, our course management system

How to Get It

The SMC Student Self-Service system will assign you a username and you will choose a password for your account. Write down the username and password assigned to you by the system.  Keep this information secure!

Your username is usually lastname_firstname, (e.g., smith_john) but may include your middle name or middle initial.  Make sure you use the underscore "_" between the parts of your name.

Troubleshooting

I forgot my username or password
You can always check your username and password by re-entering your information on the Student Self-Service system

I can't get an account from the Student Self-Service system
There are several possibilities. You may not be currently registered at SMC. You may have entered your ID, name, or date of birth incorrectly. You may not be enrolled at this time, or the semester that you are enrolled in has not yet started.

My account doesn't work / I am still having problems
Please contact us using the Off-Campus Access Problem Report Form, or stop by the Library Reference Desk.

Can I change my password?
No, you cannot change your password.

I am skipping a semester; will I lose my SMC account?
Yes. Accounts are disabled the first semester (Fall or Spring) that a student is not enrolled.  Your account will not be disabled if you skip the Winter or Summer sessions.

For any other library related problems you can always stop by the Reference Desk or use the Ask-a-Librarian service on the Library website.
