Summer Fellowships for SMC Faculty and Students at NASA's JPL
(CIPAIR) grant was awarded to SMC's CSIS department on Ocotber 2010.
This project aims to promote undergraduate research in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.
It offers Summer Fellowships for SMC faculty and students @ JPL.

In Summer of 2011 four SMC faculty completed a fellowship program at JPL:
Professors Alessandro Grippo and Stuart Cooley from the Earth Sciences department,
Professor Ethan Gallogly from the Chemistry department, and Professor Steve Paik from the Physics department.
- Professor Alessandro Grippo is a co-author on a to-be-published paper as a result of his work while at JPL July-August 2011.
- In Summer 2012, 4 SMC faculty will also be awarded SMC-JPL Summer fellowships.
Faculty must select at least 1 student to join them in the summer fellowship.
Select students who are eligible may recieve a summer stipend of up to $3000.
- SMC fauclty who are awarded the summer fellowships at JPL will recieve a stipend of $12,000.
This stipend will compenasate for the faculty's work at JPL for up to 8 weeks.
