Media Production

Capture Your Audience with a Career in Media Production & Broadcasting

Our media production program provides hands-on experiences in real world settings across television and radio broadcasting including broadcast news, sports, podcasting, promotional videos, short form media, and virtual and augmented reality--yes, there is a difference. We house popular radio station KCRW on campus, bringing the industry to the classroom. Students receive instruction and training designed to support seamless entry into the broadcasting industry or a four-year degree program.

The Promo Pathways program provides intensive training and internships for students pursuing promo advertising careers.

Media Studies

The media studies program at Santa Monica College focuses a lens on mass media history and analysis. Students develop the critical thinking and analytical skills needed to assess, unpack and problem solving issues surrounding mass media’s affect on society. We examine the media’s representation of social class, age, ethnicity, race, gender and sexuality. As a result, you become a more informed, empowered audience member.

NOTE: Media Studies courses meet important transfer requirements but there is no certificate or degree available.
