The SMC EC/E Department faculty and staff are passionate about the welfare and education of all children and would love for you to join in our quest for what is best for children. Our program is rich, exciting and designed around hands-on application of evidence based practice from the field.  We hope to provide you with the necessary tools to begin your journey in the world of education.

The need for trained Early Childhood professionals continues to grow due to the increasing numbers of families that rely on qualified personnel to care for their children. Many students in the program plan to be preschool teachers, directors and early childhood specialists. Others plan to work in the field of early education while they continue their education in preparation for careers in the fields of elementary and special education, child psychology, counseling and a variety of other child focused occupations.

Our Early Childhood Education program is designed to meet the lower division education and licensing needs of students planning a career or currently working with children birth to approximately 8 years of age, in early childhood settings.

Those interested in pursuing an Elementary or Secondary credential; we also offer two foundation classes Education 1 and Education 2 that allows students to explore the many options available for working with children from kindergarten to High School.
