​​​About the Warner History Essay Contest

The Warner History Essay Contest, established by the Warner family, is a scholarship opportunity open to students of all majors. Prizes range from $500 to $750 for an essay on any historical topic. Winners are recognized at the annual Scholarship Award ceremony in early June.

Timeline for the Warner History Essay Contest

Scholarship Opportunity open to all majors

Prizes: One grand prize of $1,000; 2nd prize $750; and 3rd prize $500 for an essay on any historical topic.

Who can Apply?

  • At least 3 units of SMC History courses

  • Overall 3.0 GPA in SMC History courses

  • Submit an application to determine your eligibility

The application deadline is Tuesday, December 31, 2019.


Essay

4 to 6-page essay on any historical topic

Essay Deadline

The deadline is Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at 3:00 p.m.

Submit essays to Scholarship Office, SSC-104.

Optional Workshop

To cover contest requirements and review essay writing skills, an optional workshop will be offered by the History Department: Wednesday October 9th and Thursday October 10th, 2:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in HSS-105.​
