Richard Goldenson

Richard Goldenson has been the Head Coach of the women's tennis team since 2001.  In 2010 the team made SMC history winning the first outright conference title in 30 years with a perfect 10-0 record and a SMC, all-time high state ranking of #3.  In 2010, Coach Goldenson was voted the Western State Conference "Coach of the Year."  Coach Goldenson's players have gone on to play tennis at 4-year institutions at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III levels as well as highly ranked NAIA programs.


In addition to coaching the team and teaching in SMC's kinesiology department, Coach Goldenson also teaches youth and adult tennis classes for the City Santa Monica Community Classes Division.  Coach Goldenson is also the director of a youth tennis camp that is conducted during the Winter, Spring and Summer vacation periods.

Coach Goldenson earned his B.A. from Columbia University in New York City in 1988 and then earned a M.S. from CSUN in 2009.   Currently, Coach Goldenson is a doctoral student at CSUN where he is working on a dissertation on the role of after-school programs in teacher preparation programs.

Coach Goldenson and his wife, Jamie Lee,  have a daughter, Maya, who has never missed a home match of the SMC women's tennis team.
