F.A.Q.

Q: Does it cost anything to meet with a tutor?
A: No. It is 100% free.

Q: How can I set up an appointment with a tutor?
A: You don't need to! We work on a drop-in basis. Just check our current schedule to see if a tutor is available. If they are on the schedule, just stop by, log in at the computer and you're ready to go!

Q: How do I log in?
A: On the black computer next to the lab, click "Tutoring" as your purpose of visit, enter your student identification number and press "Enter". Don't forget to do it again when you leave to log out!

Q:Do I have to be a Santa Monica College Student/currently enrolled in a language course to visit the tutor?
A: Yes. Tutors are meant for SMC language students.

Q: Can I schedule a room for a study group?
A: Yes! Contact the Coordinator with your proposed time and he will inform you of the room's availability.

Q: I want to hire a personal tutor, can you recommend one?
A: Unfortunately, we are unable to connect tutors with personal employers.

Q: I want to be a tutor! How can I become a tutor?
A: Potential tutors are encouraged to meet with Joshua Everett, the Tutoring Coordinator, in person. From there they will be directed to an online application. Due to the high volume of applications received it is not possible for the Coordinator to respond to ever application individually. If an opening becomes available and you look like a good fit, the Coordinator will reach out to you via phone or email. But feel free to stop by and inquire occasionally!

If your question is not listed above or you have other concerns, please contact the Tutoring Coordinator directly. We would love to hear your feedback so that we can continue to improve our service.
