2015 SPRING SMC MUSIC PERFORMANCE

CLASSES AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

(All auditions are held at the SMC Performing Arts Center unless otherwise noted)

 MUSIC 42, ADVANCED OPERA PRODUCTION – Tues., 2/17 @ 6:45p, Rm.#107

Sing 2 memorized contrasting arias. An accompanist will be provided. Bring sheet music for the accompanist.  Solo auditions will be held prior to this date.

MUSIC 45, MUSICAL THEATRE WORKSHOP – Wed, 2/18 @ 12:45p, Theatre Arts Bldg., Studio Stage, Main Campus

Students should prepare 32 bars from any musical theatre production and provide sheet music in the proper key.  An accompanist will be provided. 

MUSIC 52,  Adv. Production, Musical Theatre– Thurs., 2/19 @ 6:30p, Studio Stage

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

Prepare 32 bars from a musical. Accompanist will be provided. Provide sheet music in the proper key.  No a cappella. Prepare a 1-minute monologue, preferably from a comedy.

    

MUSIC 53, JAZZ VOCAL ENSEMBLE – Thurs., 2/19 @ 6:45p, Rm.#107

Sing 1 memorized jazz standard of your choosing. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music/lead sheet with chord symbols for the accompanist. Audition may also consist of basic sight reading, tonal memory, and voice placement.

MUSIC 55, CONCERT CHORALE – Wed., 2/18 @ 6:45p, Rm. #107

All singers (continuing and new) should attend the first evening rehearsal. Singers will be asked to sing alone and in small groups simple vocal exercises that will be taught that evening.

MUSIC 57, ADVANCED VOCAL PERFORMANCE TECHNIQUES – Wed., 2/18 @ 6:45p, Rm. #115.

Sing 2 memorized contrasting songs in the genre of your study.  An accompanist will be provided.  Bring sheet music for the accompanist.

 MUSIC 59, CHAMBER CHOIR – Tues., 2/17 @ 3p, Rm. #107

Memorize and sing The Star Spangled Banner a cappella.

MUSIC 74, ORCHESTRA – Tues., 2/17 @6:45p, Broad Stage (enter through the Artist Entrance on the west side near the loading dock)

Play a short piece.  The instructor will then give you a piece to sight read.

MUSIC 77, WIND ENSEMBLE – Wed., 2/18 @6:45p, Broad Stage (enter through the Artist Entrance on the west side near the loading dock)

Play a short piece.  The instructor will then give you a piece to sight-read.

MUSIC 78, JAZZ ENSEMBLE – Mon., 2/23 @ 6:45p, Rm. #107

​The instructor will pass out charts for everyone to play.  No preparation required.
