The music curriculum at Santa Monica College provides educational opportunities designed to meet the needs of students who wish to explore as well as increase their knowledge, performance skills and appreciation of music. This is fulfilled through a program inclusive of applied and group music instruction, history, vocal and instrumental ensembles and theory. The curriculum is intended to serve music majors, general education transfer students, vocationally oriented students and the community.

The Broad Stage
Literally steps away from the SMC music building, The Broad Stage presents a unique collection of performers from local to international status who share stage time with SMC performing groups. Past and future performers and directors include Dustin Hoffman, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Plácido Domingo, Barbara Cook, William Friedkin, Kent Nagano, and many other distinguished artists.
The Music Center
The site of no fewer than four high profile performance centers, the Music Center provides the greater Los Angeles community with outstanding presentations of operas, choral works, orchestral works, musicals, plays, and ballets throughout the year. The Los Angeles Opera, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Master Chorale, and Center Theatre Group are all resident companies of this cultural gold mine.
Pantages
The Southern Californian’s source for Broadway, the historical Pantages theater presents Broadway shows and a variety of other exciting performing groups.
UCLA Live
This university-based performing arts center presents an eclectic mix of theatrical and musical events ranging from rock ‘n’ roll to Shakespeare. UCLA Live is known internationally for its exciting programming that breaks the boundaries of the modern stage.
Geffen Playhouse
The Geffen Playhouse has been a mainstay for theater in Los Angeles for the last eighty years.
