Teaching Philosophy/Equity Statement
My teaching philosophy is based on the theoretical notion of “civic engagement.” The term “civic engagement” refers to people’s connections with the political, educational, and/or social life of their communities. Civic engagement underscores my viewpoint that classrooms are multiethnic learning laboratories where people from different backgrounds come together to learn about the complexities of our modern political world and the communities in which they live. I relish diverse classrooms because the discourse adds a great deal to the learning environment. Everyone in the classroom (whether online or in-person) can learn a great deal from this environment. I take great pride in mentoring my students and getting them interested in political science.
