Josh Sanseri has over 20 years of professional experience, and his photographs have been published and exhibited around the world. His passion is creatively illustrating people’s character, using their unique everyday life as the backdrop. Josh also serves as a tenured professor in Santa Monica College's esteemed Photography Department and has taught courses at UCLA, Art Center College of Design, UCSD, the Santa Fe Workshops in New Mexico, the Julia Dean Workshops in Los Angeles, and the Venice School of Photography in Italy. His fine art approach to photographing people was generated while earning a Bachelor of Arts in Cinema & Photography and a Master of Fine Arts in Art — both from Southern Illinois University. His photographs are often described as equal parts fine art and technical proficiency. He utilizes a solid understanding of light, composition, and the ability to relate to his subjects without relying on gimmicks or the latest software plugin to make successful photographs. Josh has been an official photographer for Outside Lands and Treasure Island Music Festivals since they began in 2007 & 2008. As the festivals' exclusive and official portrait photographer, he's photographed hundreds of musicians backstage including The Flaming Lips, Billy Idol, Death Cab For Cutie, Phoenix, Jason Mraz, Vampire Weekend, Kings of Leon, Deadmau5, and many more. He has also photographed many executives including the president of Dreamworks Animation, the CEO of ING, the executive warden of New Mexico State Penitentiary, and the CEO of One Legacy. His work has appeared in such publications as Billboard Magazine, Rolling Stone, Relix, Thrasher, Los Angeles Times Magazine, and Business Week, to name a few. Outside of making pictures, Josh’s interests include snowboarding, surfing, mountain biking, golfing, motorcycling, traveling, BBQing, throwing the ball for his dogs Woody & Porter, and attempting to garden.

A native of Los Angeles, Craig studied filmmaking at UCLA and Art and Photography at Santa Monica College. He began his professional career in 1975 when he opened his own photography business called Catfish Farms Studios. He specialized in large format (4x5, 8x10) studio photography, primarily still-life, advertising and stock images for ad agencies, design firms, and corporations. Past clients have included Allergan, Fox Broadcasting, K-Swiss, Vans, The Walt Disney Company, Spelling Entertainment, Farmers Insurance Group, Hard Rock Hotels, and USC. His annual report work has been featured in Communications Arts Magazine, AR 100, the Mead Paper Show and the Art Director’s Club of Los Angeles. Craig started his teaching career at UCLA Extension in 1985 creating digital shooting classes and studio lighting courses taught in his studio. He began teaching part-time at Santa Monica College in 2000. In 2012 he was elevated to full-time teaching status and currently is teaching Photo 1 (Introduction to Photography), Photo 30 (Techniques of Artificial Lighting), Photo 60 (Business Practices in Photography) and Photo 43 (Portfolio Development).

Advertising, Editorial, and Fine Art Photographer. Senior Photoshop Artist. Prior to becoming a full-time instructor at Santa Monica College, Josh spent 11 years as an in house photographer and senior Photoshop artist for one of the largest advertising agency in the world, TBWA\Chiat\Day. He shoots editorial, commercial and fine art imagery. He has photographed products, people and animals for top brands such as Pepsi, Gatorade, Nissan, Priceline.com, Manduka, and Pedigree. Between his advertising and his editorial/concert photography, his images can be seen on billboards and magazines throughout the country and online publications. His advertising photography work earned TBWA\Chiat\Day two Kelly Awards, a Lucie Award nomination and consistent recognition in Communication Arts. His concert photography was recognized by the industry magazine Photo District News, winning a People’s Choice Award for the Ultimate Music Moment Photo Contest. Josh has been using Photoshop since 1992 and was part of the Adobe Photoshop beta testing team for over a decade. As a Senior level Digital Artist, he has performed high end, flawless imagery for the top brands and photographers. Josh Withers earned a BFA from the University of Delaware and continued his education working alongside a diverse batch of photographers and preeminent digital artists at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. It was at the Santa Fe Workshops in Santa Fe, New Mexico that Josh also began his part-time career as an instructor. In addition to teaching yearly workshops at the Santa Fe Photo Workshops, Josh has also taught at the Pasadena Art Center College of Design and Miami Ad School. He became a full-time instructor within the Photography Department at Santa Monica College in 2013.

Photography has been my life and career for over thirty years. My formal education at Brooks was focused on the science of light and image making, it was very technical and I loved it. In the early years, I shot mostly 8x10 film for my food clients and medium format when shooting lifestyle. I embraced the advancing digital technology from the beginning with a digital back replacing film. Over the years I’ve photographed just about everything from including underwater and hanging from helicopters. I started teaching in 2010 and today my professional career is divided between teaching at SMC and shooting assignments.

Following her undergraduate work at Otis Parsons School of Design, Natasha Calzatti went on to shoot award-winning work for THE NEW YORK TIMES, NEWSWEEK, PEOPLE, and VIBE and has been syndicated internationally. Her photography is represented in many private collections and continues to regularly show in galleries. Simultaneous to her photography career, Natasha sought the cutting edge of imaging as it transitioned from the chemical darkroom to the digital darkroom where her digital retouching abilities became increasingly in demand for magazine clients TV Guide, Marie Claire, Time Magazine, The Source, and Vibe as well as advertising clients Midas, MCI and Dreyfus. In 2011, Ms. Calzatti was invited to The Getty Center to share her behind the camera experiences of Cuba as she presented an in-gallery exploration of A Revolutionary Project: Cuba from Walker Evans to Now, and, in September 2016, DIGITAL PHOTO PRO magazine ran a feature with Ms. Calzatti on navigating the proper workflow in the digital darkroom. The interview was conducted by celebrated NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC photographer, Mark Edward Harris. Blue Fier is a photographer specializing in the vigorous field of location photography. He has photographed numerous advertising campaigns for major corporations, specializing in images of people and products in exotic environments. He has three degrees in Art, a BA from Occidental College, and two masters degrees in Art, an M.A. from Cal State University, Northridge and an M.F.A. from UCLA. His unique perspective as a working photographer and years of creating order out of chaos on location shoots, has to lead to his published book, Composition Photo Workshop (Wiley 2007, 252 pages), available wherever books are sold, as an eBook, and in print (translated into Spanish, Czech, Polish, and Mandarin Chinese). Christina Gregory was born and raised in Honolulu and received BA and MA degrees from Stanford University where she studied art history and fine art. Recipient of a yearlong fellowship for educators, she has taught art in a variety of programs and has been teaching photography at Santa Monica College since 1990. She has worked in the field for almost 20 years, shooting large-format color work and portraiture. Her commercial work, both editorial/advertising, has appeared in publications including Sunset and the Los Angeles Times Magazine.

Sean has a BA in Photojournalism from California State Long Beach and studied photography at L. A. Pierce College. He has 22 years of experience in the photo industry, including retail sales, commercial lab work, and commercial shooting. He has also worked with a digital news agency and managed a digital service bureau. After college Sean decided that he wanted to teach photography and began working at Pierce College as the Photo Lab Instructor, then joined the staff at SMC. Sean’s personal photographic interests include landscape, industrial landscapes, and depictions of man’s intrusion in nature. Sean is recently married to a wonderful wife and the two of them recently welcomed a beautiful daughter to their family. He is also a life-long surfer, an interest that has grown alongside his pursuit of photography and teaching. From time to time he also builds his own surfboards.

Melanie Morgan Shatto
Melanie Morgan Shatto has approached photography from as many different angles as you can think of. Her experience has led her through managing commercial and portrait studios, professional photo labs, retail camera sales, and lecture assisting for nationally recognized photo educators such as Don Blair, Tony Corbell, and Joe Bussink. She has photographed weddings, events, and portraits since 1994 and has published in People and In Style. Melanie teaches Photo 1 at SMC and is currently a freelance photographer producing fine art and portraits. She has an Art degree from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA and is the 2008 President of the Professional Photographers of Los Angeles County.
Steve Moulton graduated from Brooks Institute of Photography with a BA in Commercial Photography in 1981. Steve's personal photography specializes in fine art black and white. His printing skills and knowledge are widely recognized throughout the greater Los Angeles area because he has been a custom black & white printer and/or a lab manager for a number of professional photographic labs. His current position is with Photo Impact. Mr. Moulton teaches Photo 37, Advanced Black & White Printing.

Dutch completed the Photography program at SMC in 1972 and subsequently earned his BFA in Photography at Art Center College of Design. After graduating he became studio manager for Bruce Wilson Studio, working in advertising photography for such clients as Bank of America, American Honda, and Princess Cruises. After two years of working with Bruce, Dutch set out on his own, opening a studio in Hollywood where he began to develop his client base. Dutch shot for Vivitar, MacCulloch Power Tools, Macy's, Bullocks, The Broadway and Robinsons Department Stores. After a short period In Scottsdale, Arizona Dutch was recruited by Teleflora Corporation to set up an in-house photo studio for their national ad campaigns. Dutch worked at Teleflora for 7 years and continues to do freelance for them. Additional clients
include Fiji Water, Pom Wonderful, 1-800 Flowers, and Sunkist Pistachios.
Mr. Myers also teaches at Ventura College. Currently, Dutch has a studio in Newbury Park and works for local ad agencies and designers.
A native of Santa Monica and a graduate of SMC’s photo program, Anthony Nex’s first job was shooting a young fashion designer named Gianni Versace. From there he has gone on to shoot campaigns for Nissan, Target, MGM, Sony, Paramount, Epson, Dole, Carnation, Disney, Microsoft, and scores of others. A huge believer in giving back to the community, he is a past board member of ASMP/LA and is a former chapter chairman of APA/LA. In 2013 he was presented with the International Photographic Council’s Leadership award at the United Nations in New York City. He continues to shoot for ad agencies, design firms, and corporations out of his studio in the Helms Bakery Complex, and in 2017 returned to SMC to teach the portfolio and business photography classes.
John Thawley has been working in the commercial photography industry since 1989. After earning a BA in Speech Communication and a brief career in advertising where he says, "... going on photo shoots was the only fun I had," John worked as a freelance photo assistant and then commercial studio manager. This led to the desire to go back to school at Art Center College of Design where he earned his BFA in Commercial Photography. Throughout his career, Thawley has kept close to his life’s passion for automobiles. He claims to have used a car in every school photo assignment that even remotely offered the possibility. (He drove some of his teachers nuts in the process.) A self-described "Car Nut" most of his work is for the automotive and motor-sports industries. He is a regular contributor to Honda Tuning, Muscle Car Enthusiast, Sport Compact Car, Super Ford, and 5.0 Mustang magazines.
Away from the camera and classroom, Thawley enjoys motorsports, woodworking, refurbishing old houses and using loud, dangerous power tools. He lives in Santa Ana, California with his wife, young daughter, three cats and a brown dog.
Born in France - 1955 Received a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the 'Institut Universitaire de Technologie' Paris, France (1977). And autodidact at photography. Started taking pictures in 1975 while working for Guy Bourdin in Paris. Learned black and white printing from 1977-1979 under the Guidance of Jean-Loup Sieff, also in Paris. Moved to Los Angeles in 1986 and started to work with large format cameras. From 1995 to the present, made extensive research on high definition printing with small and medium format cameras, using highly customized enlarging systems.

Gerard Burkhart is a photojournalist whose work has appeared in every major national news magazine and newspaper through assignments or via wire services Agence France Presse and Associated Press. Additional work has been circulated through the agencies gettyimages, Polaris and Black Star. He is currently providing editorial and corporate work to gettyimages custom assignments along with other clients. As a photographer with the Los Angeles Times, his photos were a part of three Pulitzer Prize-winning group entries and a fourth group entry Pulitzer Finalist for spot news. As a photographer for the Los Angeles Times, he won First Place for Photo Essay in the 1996 Greater Los Angeles Press Club for a local environmental cleanup story. He was a staff photographer at the Los Angeles Daily News. His North Hollywood Neighborhood Project is a part of the permanent historical photography collection of the Los Angeles Public library, the attorney group O’Melveney and Meyers photo collection and private collectors in the U.S. and Great Britain. He also teaches photojournalism classes at Santa Monica College.
