Auditions

 In order to be eligible for casting in a Main or Studio Stage production, you must either be a currently enrolled SMC student (in a class other than the production and co-requisite class) or have been a student at the college within the past year.

Studio Stage
      • Prepare 32 bars of an up-tempo song. Accompanist will be provided. Provide sheet music in the
           proper key. No a cappella. 


        •Prepare a 1-minute monologue.
 
 
CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

 

​ARNO

The palace's scrub boy who is outgoing and impulsive. He says the first thing that comes into his head.

Male or Female to play Male, 15-20 yrs old

Range:  Bb2 - G4 (range could be adjusted if a female is cast)

 

​DEENA

The Royal Clothesmaker who is motherly, level-headed, bossy and nervous.

Female, 20-40 yrs old

Range:  B2-E5

 

​MARCUS

The Emperor and our story's protagonist. He has a powerful imagination and is very intelligent, however, he lacks self-confidence.​

Male or Female to play Male, 20-30 yrs old

Range:  Bb2 - F4 (range could be adjusted if female is cast)

 

​SWINDLER

Makes the "Magic" clothes for Marcus. He is a conniving, imaginative showman, extremely skilled at his art of trickery.

Male, 25-35 yrs old

Range: C3 - F4

 

WILLIAM​

The Royal Advisor who is fatherly, and a little henpecked. He tries to be authoritative and responsible, but generally fails.

Male, 20-40 yrs old

Range: A2 - F4

VILLAGERS    ​

Any age, gender. Ensemble speaking and singing parts.

 

DANCERS​

Any gender. Strong dance background. Gymnastic skills would be a plus.

   *Invitation only

     No appointments are provided.
     Pictures and resumes are accepted, however, are not required.
     Participation in the production requires enrollment in the advanced production class, TA 53. There are fees involved.
     Santa Monica College productions are non-union and non-paid.

TA 45 - Musical Theatre Workshop

Fall, 2015

       August 31  12:45 pm   Studio Stage

     Students should prepare 32 bars from any musical theatre production and provide sheet muusic in the proper key. An accompanist will be provided.
