Get InvolvedSustainable WorksSustainable Works' Student Program is an extra-credit opportunity that compliments SMC's environmental curriculum. For nine weeks peer-led groups help SMC students reflect on the environmental impact of their daily lives. A combination of discussion, recommendations, field trips and community service motivates positive change. Sustainable Works also runs similar programs for Santa Monica businesses and residents. Sustainable Works: Student Program Environmental Affairs CommitteeThe Environmental Affairs Committee is an arm of Santa Monica College's Academic Senate. Faculty, staff, administrators and students discuss the role of the Center for Environmental and Urban Studies in promoting campus-wide environmental initiatives. The Committee meets on Thursdays at the CEUS. For further information please contact Dr. Garen Baghdasarian, Chair. Eco-Action ClubThe Eco-Action Club is a student run club, focusing on increasing environmental awareness campus wide. The club meets Thursdays at 11:15am at the CEUS. Students who wish to learn more may attend a meeting; or subscribe to the Eco-Action Club's online group. members_ecoactionclub@yahoogroups.com SMC DirtfarmersSMC Dirtfarmers is a community of students and faculty dedicated to building awareness about sustainable agriculture and nutrition through educational events, organic food tastings and campus garden initiatives. The group meets Tuesdays at 11:15am at the CEUS. Recycling DepartmentSanta Monica College recycles a combined 85 percent of its construction and solid waste. Cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles are recycled in clearly marked containers throughout the campus. White and colored paper, envelopes (even those with windows), magazines, and newspapers are included in the recycling program.
