ALEKS Sign-Up Instructions

Sign-Up for a Free ALEKS Math Diagnostic Test

  • Go to the following website: http://www.aleks.com and select the free trial option and setup your account
  • Install the ALEKS plugin for your browser—you must agree to the Terms and Conditions
  • Select Higher Education as your market
  • Enter your personal information, along with the following:
Choose your market: Higher Education: Math
Select a Course: Intermediate Algebra or Beginning Algebra.
  • You will then be assigned a login and password - write this down.
    • You will have 3 hours of access to the website, to be used within the next 48 hours.
    • You can log out and back in any time using your login and password. Your 3 hours are accumulated only when you are logged in.
  • Complete the "Answer Editor Tutorial" that shows how to type in responses (the test is not multiple choice).
  • You will then be given an assessment that contains approximately 30 questions.
Note: If you log out at any time, you will always return to the same spot when you log back in.
  • Upon completing the assessment, ALEKS will show your pie charts and scores in each area covered by the test.
  • To interpret your results: Click on a topic from your pie, just to get out of that screen.
  • Go to 'Report' from the toolbar (this isn't available until after you complete the assessment and go through the pie chart explanation).
  • You will see a list of all topics you already know, and a list of those you do not know or on which you need to brush up.
    • You might want to continue to use any remaining free time on ALEKS to brush up on these skills.
    • ALEKS will present you with learning activities and test items to help you learn these skills.
    • Once your trial period expires, you will have the option to subscribe to the service at a cost. You can also use these topics to search for video tutorials on YouTube or on the Khan Academy website (http://www.khanacademy.org/) to help you brush up.
NOTE: This 'free trial' is not meant to be an all-encompassing preparation for the Math Assessment.
