Concurrent Enrollment Students

High School Assessment Requirements

  • Completed the 8th grade by the beginning of the semester you are applying to attend.

  • Take the SMC English assessment and also the SMC math assessment if you are taking a math course. You must, however, test into Level B English (English 21A) or higher to qualify to take any SMC course while still in high school.

Note: Placement results from any other college are be accepted.

Peabody Test

Students who have not completed the 8th grade and have been granted preliminary approval to continue with the admission process by the Dean of Enrollment Services will be directed to complete the Peabody test.

The purpose of th​e Peabody test is to determine your academic achievement level. To be admitted to SMC for any class you take, you must demonstrate that you possess academic skills equivalent to the beginning of the 9th grade.

  • The Peabody test is administered Monday to Friday by appointment only: (310) 434-4012.

  • After approval, you must take the English and math (if relevant) assessments first before taking the Peabody test.
