Concurrent Enrollment Students

All high school concurrent enrollment students must meet the following qualifications for admission to the college:

  • You must have completed the 8th grade by the beginning of the term you are applying to attend.
  • You must take the Santa Monica College English Placement Test and the SMC Math Placement Test (if relevant). There is no minimum score needed for the math test, except if trying to qualify for a math course. You must, however, test into Level B English (English 21A) or higher in order to qualify to take any SMC course while still in high school.
  • Placement results from any other college will not be accepted under any circumstances.

Peabody Test Information

Students who have not yet completed the 8th grade and have already met with the Dean of Enrollment Services, and have been granted preliminary approval to continue with the admission process, will be directed to complete the "Peabody test." The purpose of the Peabody is to help us determine your academic achievement level. In order to be admitted to the college--regardless of the course you wish to take--you must demonstrate that you possess academic skills equivalent to the beginning of the 9th grade.

  • The Peabody is administered by appointment only by calling 310-434-4012.
  • The test will only be administered upon completion of the English placement test and the math placement test if relevant. Additionally, you must have placed into the English and math level required.
  • You must be available to take the test between 8 AM and 3 PM.
