SMC electronically submits to the Cal Grant program the GPA for all students who have:
- attended SMC in the last 10 years
- completed 16 or more degree applicable units
SMC submits these GPA files to the Cal Grant Program two times each year:
- on or before March 2
- on or before September 2
Note #1: Students who have not earned 16 units of degree applicable coursework at the college level, need to have their GPA verified by their high school.
Note #2: For SMC students that have earned less than 16 degree applicable units at SMC, but (when factoring in transfer coursework) do have at least 16 units-SMC Financial Aid can do a manual GPA assessment. However, SMC must receive official transcripts at least one week before the Cal Grant deadline in either March or September. Please see the following steps for requesting a Cal Grant Manual GPA Calculation.
Manual GPA Calculation Steps
1. Submit official transcripts
- by February 24 (for March 2, 2012 GPA submission)
- by August 24 (for the September 2, 2012 GPA submission)
2. Complete/sign a 2012-13 Cal Grant GPA Form and deliver it (in person) to the SMC Financial Aid Office
- by February 24 (for March 2, 2012 GPA submission)
- by August 24 (for the September 2, 2012 GPA submission)
Note #3: Make sure to complete a 2012-13 FAFSA Application by either the Cal Grant Deadlines (either March 2 for early consideration) or by September 2.
