What are the differences between a grant, a work study job, and a loan?

  • A grant is money that does not need to be paid back.

  • A work study award (Federal Work Study - FWS) allows you to find a 'student employee' job on campus.
You must work to access these funds.

  • A loan is money that you (or your parents) borrow from a bank.
These funds need to be repaid.
