The American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) is a private, four-year liberal arts institution located in Blagoevgrad, a small city in the southwestern corner of Bulgaria. It is the first American-style university in Eastern Europe. AUBG currently enrolls approximately 650 students. A large majority of the students are Bulgarian, though some twenty countries are represented among the student body. The objective of AUBG is to provide a model of western liberal arts higher education in an emerging democracy. The university provides a strong liberal arts curriculum in an area of the world not often available for study abroad opportunities
Academic Program Highlights
Program offerings include Business Administration, Political Science and International Relations, Applied Economics, Journalism and Mass Communication, Computer Science, History, English, Southeast European Studies, Contemporary European Studies, Economics, Fine Arts, German, Mathematics, and Philosophy. All instruction is in English. Students earn between 12 and 15 credits per semester in this program, which is open to students of sophomore through senior standing who have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
Student Life
Students live in co-ed on-campus residence halls. Recreational activities, university health center services, and Residential Life social and educational activities are offered to all students. Student government also sponsors a wide variety of clubs and organizations open to all students.
