If you have
successfully completed English composition (not ESL) and/or mathematics at a
U.S. college or university, you may submit your request for a preliminary
review of your College-level English and math classes. This might
determine whether or not you have to take the ESL/English and math assessments
at Santa Monica College and possibly waive you into the appropriate level of
English/math courses. You will be notified of the decision via
your SMC e-mail.
The International Counseling office will only process the
following waivers:

General Instructions to Obtain an Assessment Waiver or
English/math Placement
Placement and prerequisite waivers may be granted under
specific circumstances noted below.
Please read the appropriate section to determine if your request will
qualify. Be sure to follow the procedure
as outlined and provide the necessary information or a decision will not be
made.
U.S. College
Coursework Only - Not available for Overseas Coursework
Courses must have been completed with a grade of C or
higher.
Provide the following information and documents via e-mail
or ground mail:
1.
Your full name, SMC student I.D. number,
application I.D. number, and date of birth.
2.
Course descriptions for mathematics courses.
3.
Course syllabi for English composition courses.
Additional information may be required by the Counselor
reviewing your request. You will be
contacted via your SMC e-mail.
Advanced Placement
Score
College Board Advanced Placement test results may be used to
determine your eligibility for English and math courses.
Provide the following information and documents via e-mail
or ground mail:
1.
Your full name, SMC student I.D. number,
application I.D. number, and date of birth.
2.
Copy of your AP scores with a minimum score of

Other courses completed at a U.S. college or universities or
other AP results will be reviewed when you meet with a Counselor on
campus. Be sure to bring the most
current transcript and complete AP results.
