Jihyeon Cha holds a double B.A. in Korean Education as a Foreign Language and Japanese, and an M.A. in Korean Literature and Linguistics. She will receive a doctoral degree from the Asian Languages and Cultures department at UCLA in 2016. Her dissertation focused on how language can be associated with the intonational pattern in everyday language use. Jihyeon joined SMC as a full-time Korean professor in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures in the fall of 2013. Her research interests and experiences include discourse analysis, pragmatics, phonetics, Korean language teacher training, and Korean as second/foreign language pedagogy.
