“Celebrate America” is going back to the field.
Santa Monica College’s popular annual outdoor festival and spectacular fireworks show will once again include Corsair Field picnicking, which had been prohibited the past couple years because of concerns about the new artificial turf.
All the standard favorite features of the festival, held in honor of Independence Day, will be back, including live entertainment, community service booths, beach balls and food. New this year will be a live auction from the stage with prizes donated by Santa Monica area businesses.
The celebration – the only one of its kind in Santa Monica – is Saturday, June 25 and provides an early start to Independence Day activities. Gates open at 5 p.m. and entertainment, including the Texas Jump and Louisiana Blues sounds of Chris Mulkey and Deluxe begins at 6:30 p.m. Pryo Spectaculars’ fireworks go off at dusk, around 9 p.m.
Entry to the event is free but donations are welcome. Parking is $5. Alcoholic beverages, glass containers, barbecues, fireworks and chairs with pointed legs are prohibited.
Presenting sponsors of the event are SMC and the City of Santa Monica. Major sponsors are the SMC Associated Students and Bourget Brothers Building Materials in Santa Monica.
