November 24, 2015

The Santa Monica College (SMC) football team – the Corsairs – defeated the Victory Valley College Rams 63-0 to win the American Division Bowl Championship at the game held Saturday, November 21, at the SMC Corsair Field.

The last Corsair football team to go undefeated was the team that won the division bowl championship in 1979-1980. Several SMC alumni from that team attended the game on Saturday night.

“I congratulate the SMC Corsairs, Coach Lindheim and his staff for their undefeated season with a perfect record of 11-0 and for winning their fifth consecutive American Pacific Conference Title,” said Reggie Ellis, SMC’s Interim Assistant Director for Athletics.

SMC wide receiver Baxter Kirven was named Player of the Game. Kirven caught four passes for a total of 109 yards and three touchdowns. SMC quarterback Troy Williams was honored as the game’s Most Valuable Player. Williams completed 18 of 24 pass attempts for a total of 383 yards and seven touchdowns.
