Yanow Named Student Photojournalist of the Year
Santa Monica College Corsair photo editor Michael Yanow has been named Student Photojournalist of the Year by the Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles.
Yanow, 30, of West Los Angeles, was awarded $1,000 and a new Nikon camera in recognition of his work at the awards ceremony held recently in El Segundo.
He was selected for the award based on a portfolio of 14 images he submitted to judges. The second-place winner is a student at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.
Yanow, who already has his bachelor’s degree in outdoor recreation from the University of Minnesota, came to SMC to study photography in 2009. This is his second semester on the photography staff of the student newspaper Corsair.
