I have worked as a Disabled Student Services Assistant since 2008. Furthermore, I am currently serving on my second term as Recording Secretary for CSEA here at SMC.
I am also currently attending Cal State LA where I am a senior Criminal Justice major. I have served on a number of committees at both Cal State LA and for CSEA. I am a member of several student organizations and I am the current Chapter President for the Epsilon Zeta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
What brought you to SMC?
I came to SMC because I saw an opportunity for personal growth and upward mobility.
How is your commute?
I try to carpool as much as possible. My commute to campus is about 20-30 minutes in the morning, but going home is triple that time.
What is your favorite place on campus?
On a warm sunny day, I love sitting next to the fountain. The sound of the water is comforting on stressful days. I also like the organic garden it’s very peaceful.
What is your vacation spot, or place to visit?
So far my favorite vacation spot is the Dominican Republic. I had a great time at the Melia Caribe resort and enjoyed watching the peacocks during my meals and freshly cut pineapple in the morning.
What is most rewarding about working at SMC?
My favorite part of my job is when a student tells me that they received an “A” in a class that I assisted them with and when they graduate/transfer to another college. Helping someone else to succeed is extremely fulfilling. I also enjoy sitting in classes because I always learn something new. Being surrounded by a number of educated people is also rewarding as it allows me to interact and obtain personal growth from a number of individuals with various backgrounds.
If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be?
Auntie Maxine Waters. She is an inspiration.
