“Stay focused here. It’s OK if you don’t yet have a major, but just regard every class you take as an opportunity to help you find direction.”
Wasi Momin’s family emigrated from India to the US, where he was born. And he was a ‘newbie’ in his first semester at SMC. “I think everything is going very well for me here, and I really like the campus. It’s so beautiful! And because of the weather and the ocean, it’s always possible to feel very cheerful. But there’s also a vibe here,” Wasi continues, “that people are extremely serious about their studies and what they’re planning to do with their futures. And this is a very motivating kind of thing.”
Wasi chose to come to SMC because of several time-honored traditions. “First I heard that it was the Number One transfer college in California, and that it had the best faculty and staff you could find anywhere. Then there’s the cost, which is really very low. And I have a lot of friends who come here who told me that SMC was a great college. So I just decided to give it a shot. And I’m very happy that I did.”
Wasi has chosen Psychology as his major for many intricate reasons. “I don’t know if I want to go into law school or public relations, or maybe… something else entirely. But Psych is a great field to study, because it’s very involved with critical thinking and understanding why people behave the way they do. I have Christie Chambers for my Psych classes, and she’s very good at expressing different concepts about how the human mind works. But she always makes her classes very exciting, too. And I would just have to say that studying with her is always a very lively experience.”
