The 2012 Running Corsairs are led by Sophomore Guards Lee Lark and Julian Wheeler. Lark hopes to improve on his Honorable Mention All-Conference performance from last season. As a freshmen, he was second on the team in scoring and 6th in the conference averaging 13.6 ppg. Wheeler, a 2010 graduate of Leuzinger High School, is in his first season with the Corsair after playing his freshman season at Navarro Junior College in Texas. The 6'3" guard hopes to make an impact and help the Corsairs repeat as WSC conference champions.
SMC has four non-league games and will play in the Irvine Valley Tournament Nov. 17-19, the Pasadena Tournament Nov. 25-27, Rio Hondo Tournament Dec. 9-11, and the Diablo Valley Tournament Dec. 28-29 before beginning conference play Jan. 4th against Bakersfield.
The 2010-11 Corsairs were 20-8 and won the Conference Championship for the first time since 1999. Head Coach Jerome Jenkins, 2010-11 WSC Coach of the Year, has big shoes to fill after losing three all-conference players from last year's team. Last year's record-setting team featured Deshawn Stephens and Everett Brown, who received a full scholarship to San Diego State and CSUDH, respectively, and A.J. Harris, the team's leading scorer and third all-conference selection. The Corsairs took the conference title going 10-2 in conference with their only loses coming in back-to-back games against Glendale and Citrus. SMC avenged both loses later in the season en route to the Conference Championship.
