WSC Championship - October 25, 2011
The SMC women’s cross country team went into the Conference Championships at Cuesta shooting for an automatic qualifying spot to the Southern California Regional Championships. Based on the conference preview meet, this was a realistic, albeit difficult goal. The day started well with Michelle Olivarez and Jamillet Maldonado running together and leading the Lady Corsairs for the first half of the race. They finished in first and second-place for the team.
Karin Kjellenberg picked up more places in the conference than any other runner on the squad. MacKenzie Lee was back in the line-up, and her fourth-place finish helpedgreatly benefited the team. Sandy Olguin rounded out the scoring in only her second race of the season.
The Lady Corsairs managed to pick up 20 points on the day, with the top three women all improving on their places from the Conference Preview meet. They all ran an impressive and consistent race. The team effort was something to be proud of. SMC climbed one spot in the standings from last season.
Michelle Olivarez earned Second Team All-Conference and Jamillet Maldonado earned Honorable Mention All-Conference. Both qualified for the Southern California Regional Championship.
