Jane Siri Freshman Libero

What has your participation in the sport of volleyball been throughout your life?
I started playing volleyball in the 6th grade for fun. In the 8th grade through the 12th grade I started playing club, which is traveling volleyball. I made Varsity when I was a sophomore in high school, which is very good for my school because we have a great program. Beach volleyball star Nicole Branagh attended my high school. My senior year I was named team captain and starting libero the entire season. I was named second-team all league.
What was your path to SMC? What interested you in the volleyball program?
I ended up playing volleyball last minute after I moved down here from Northern California. I knew I made the right descion playing for SMC because I have met a great group of girls that I will be friends with the rest of my life and have outstanding coaches.
What is the one aspect of the game you enjoy the most?
One aspect I enjoy the most is cheering. I have always been the smallest on the team but I can cheer the loudest. I love all of the loud cheering in such a big gym it gets me extremely pumped up. Also I love digging from really good hitters. It makes me play even harder and want to dig everything.
What have you done (or do you do) off the court to improve your game, beyond practice?
I watch a lot of volleyball. I am a better learner when I see something done and then I try to copy what the passer is doing. I also like to keep in shape because I find it very important to keep in shape in the off-seasons because I really like coming back to the first practice of the season and being in good shape.
Where would you like to go from here? How serious are you about possibly moving on to play at a four-year school/program?
My plan at SMC is to be here for 2 years and transfer to a 4-year college.
I would LOVE to go to USC. My brother goes there and plays water polo there and I fell in love with it. I have always thought about playing at a 4-year college and had my heart set on playing my junior and senior year but in the end I just wasn’t ready. Playing this season I have thought a lot about playing at a 4-year college program but I will just have to see how things play out.
