TRIO / Student Support Services (SSS) helps students who want to transfer with an Associate of Arts (or AA) Degree to a four-year college or university to complete a Baccalaureate (bachelor’s or BA) degree.  Each year, we help SMC students transfer to the UC, CSU and private colleges and universities both in California and out of state.


You are eligible for the TRiO Student Support Services Program if you:

  • Are a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States.
  • Plan to transfer with an AA Degree to a four-year college or university to complete a BA Degree; and
  • Plan to enroll in English 21A/B and/or Math 31/18/20; or
  • Are currently enrolled in English 21A/B and/or Math 31/18/20.
  • Plan to enroll in 12 units.

In addition, you must be one (or more) of the following:

  • First generation college student: Parent(s) do not have a college degree
  • Low-income student: Submit FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) as proof of income
  • Student with a documented learning and/or physical disability; in foster care; or homeless
