Transfer requirements to enter the University of California at Davis

  • Complete two transferable English composition courses.
  • Complete one transferable math course.
  • Complete 4 courses from 2 of the following 3 areas:

     Arts/Humanities
     Social/Behavioral Sciences
     Physical/Biological Sciences

  • Complete 60 UC transferable semester units.
  • Have a minimum 2.4 GPA (2.8 for International applicants).
  • Complete as much coursework in the major as you can (priority is given to students that complete the most coursework in the major).
  • Complete either the IGETC or the campus specific general education requirements.
  • Complete transferable units in Spring prior to Fall transfer.
  • Apply in November for the following Fall.

Additional Transfer Tidbits

In addition to completing significant lower-division major coursework, the following  selective majors have certain GPA requirements:

Biotechnology

Minimum 2.5 GPA in major coursework, no grade lower than a C-, overall transferable GPA must be a 2.8 (check ASSIST for specific coursework).

Fermentation Science

Minimum 3.0 in one year of chemistry, first semester organic chemistry, calculus, physics, biology and a 3.0 in second semester organic chemistry, calculus, and physics (check ASSIST for specific coursework), and overall GPA of 2.8 or higher.  No grade lower than a "C-" in any one course. 

Managerial Economics

Minimum 2.8 GPA in Math 7, 8, 52; Economics 1, 2

Viticulture and Enology

Minimum 3.0 in one year of chemistry, first semester organic chemistry, calculus, physics and it is strongly recommended that students complete a second semester organic chemistry, calculus, and physics (check ASSIST for specific coursework).

Engineering

Applicants must complete all lower division courses for their specific major.  

The following majors require a 3.4 GPA:

      • Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and electrical Engineering/Material Science and Engineering.  

The following majors require a 3.1 GPA:

      • Aeronautical Science and Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Food Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Optical Science and Engineering (check ASSIST for specific coursework).

Computer Science

Complete lower-division major requirements with a 3.0, and the overall transfer GPA should be between a 2.8-3.0 (check ASSIST for specific coursework).

International Relations

Complete lower-division major requirements with a 3.0, and the overall transfer GPA should be between a 2.8-3.0 (check ASSIST for specific coursework).

Psychology

Complete lower-division major preparation with a 2.8 GPA (check ASSIST for specific coursework).

Biological Sciences Division (all majors)

  • Complete Math 7 and 8 with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Complete Chemistry 11 and 12 with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Complete Biology 21, 22, and 23 (formerly 6A, 6B, and 7) with a minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Complete Chemistry 21, 22, and 23 with a minimum 2.5 GPA (completing organic chemistry is strongly recommended).
  • Minimum 2.8-3.0 overall GPA to be competitive.

Transfer admission to UC Davis is based primarily on the quality of an applicant's academic preparation.  Students must be well prepared for their majors in order to succeed at UC Davis.  While this general guideline is true every year, specific selection criteria are reviewed annually and may change depending on enrollment goals, the number of applicants, and the quality of applicants academic preparation.
