Auditions

 

 

 

In order to be eligible for casting in a Main or Studio Stage production, you must either be a currently enrolled SMC student (in a class other than the production) or have been a student at the college within the past year.


TA 50 - Advanced Production, Full Play

THE TEMPEST
By William Shakespeare

        December 8        6:30 pm            Main Stage

                All roles are open, and the traditional gender breakdown is not necessarily being followed.

                Please prepare the following:

                        For all roles:      A 90-second Shakespeare monologue

                        For dancers:      In addition to the monologue, please prepare a 30-second dance piece with CD or without music

                 Some roles may require singing
                        For singers:        Prepare to sing a short song, acapella

                 If you have gymnastic or acrobatic skills, please be prepared to show us what you can do.

        Pictures and resumes are accepted, however, are not required.

        Participation in the production requires enrollment in the advanced production class, TA 50 and concurrent enrollment in the make-up workshop class, TA 51. There are fees involved.

        Santa Monica College productions are non-union and non-paid.

Prospero the rightful Duke of Milan, but usurped by his brother Antonio
Antonio Prospero’s brother-  usurped the dukedom of Milan from his brother
Miranda Prospero’s teenage daughter, intelligent and headstrong; raised on the island
Ariel Prospero's airy spirit helper, a powerful supernatural being controlled by Prospero
Caliban Prospero's servant and native to the island; regarded as a savage, but has capacity for poetry and understanding beauty
Alonso King of Naples - involved in a plot against Prospero, giving Prospero's dukedom to Antonio.
Sebastian Alonso’s brother - cursed with a flawed nature
Ferdinand Alonso’s son- heir to the kingdom of Naples
Gonzalo An old counselor
Trinculo drunken jester and servant of Alonso's
Stephano a Drunken Butler, friend of Trinculo
Adrian
Francisco

noblemen, and companions of Alonso who are shipwrecked with the rest

Boatswain Right hand to the ship master, in control of the workings of the ship
Iris, Ceres, Juno, Nymphs, Reapers island spirits – strong dance and acting skills required

 


TA 52 - Advanced Production, Musical Theatre

GUYS AND DOLLS

        February 23        6:30 pm            Studio Stage

                Prepare 32 bars from any musical theatre production and provide sheet music. An accompanist will be provided.
                Be prepared to read from the script.
                Be prepared to move (appropriate clothing) - a choreographer will demonstrate a combination for you to audition.

        Prepare a 1-minute monologue from the horror genre.
        Possible cold reading from the play.

                                    Tuesday, February 17            2:15 pm            Th Art 101

                            Students should have a 2-minute modern or classical (comic or serious) monologue prepared.


TA 45 - Musical Theatre Workshop

Spring, 2009        Audition for TA 45/Music 45 will be held on the first day of class
                                    Wednesday, February 18          12:45 pm            Studio Stage

                            Students should prepare 32 bars from any musical theatre production and provide sheet
                            music. An accompanist will be provided.


TA 56 - Advanced Audition Workshop

Winter, 2009         Audition for TA 56 will be held on the first day of class
                                    Monday, January 5           10:15a-2:35p            Th Arts 101

                              Students should prepare a two-minute monologue in any style.
