For SMC faculty and student users whose mailbox has been migrated to the Exchange 2010 environment, below are the instructions to configure your device to work with your SMC email.

Here is the general information you need:

  • Account type: Microsoft Exchange or ​ActiveSync (for when you first setup your device)
  • Your SMC email address
  • Your SMC username
  • Your SMC password
  • Server Name:
  • Domain: SMC (not case-sensitive)
  • Use SSL: Yes or ​ON

Note: Your Android device must NOT be connected to the SMC's Wi-Fi network while you configure or update the email settings.

Step-by-Step Instructions for iOS Devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod)

  1. Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars

  2. Tap SMC (or however you named your SMC account - e.g. Exchange, etc.)

  3. Tap Account

  4. In the Server field, delete and type in

  5. In the Domain field, enter SMC (not case-sensitive)

  6. Leave all other settings the same then tap Done at the top right

How to Synchronize Your SMC Calendar with Your iOS Device

  • The Calendars feature must be turned ON

    • Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars

    • Under Accounts, tap on your SMC account (account display names may vary)

    • Verify Calendars is ON

  • Verify that your SMC calendar is set to show in the Calendar App

    • Tap on the Calendar App

    • In the top left corner, tap the Calendars button

    • Make sure there is a check mark next to Calendar under your SMC account, then tap Done

  • If you wish to make SMC calendar your default (e.g. newly created appointments will be automatically associated with your SMC account, not any of your personal accounts that are set up on your device)

    • Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars

    • Scroll down to the Calendars section and tap on Default Calendar

    • To get back to the original Settings screen, tap the Mail... button then the Settings​button in the top left corner

Step-by-Step instructions for Android Devices

IMPORTANT: Your Android device must NOT be connected to the SMC's Wi-Fi network while you configure or update the email settings.

NOTE: For some Android versions, you may need to completely delete your Exchange account and set it up again using the instruction below. These steps might not apply to your Android device. Please see the manufacturer's documentation for instructions.

  1. From the Applications menu, select Email. This application may be named Mail on some versions of Android.

  2. Type your full e-mail address,, and your password, and then select Next.

  3. Select Exchange account. This option may be named Exchange ActiveSync on some versions of Android.

  4. Enter the following account information and select Next:

    1. smc\YourUsername - type your full e-mail address in this box. If Domain and Username are separate text boxes in your version of Android, leave the Domain box empty and type your full e-mail address in the Username box.

      Note: On some versions of Android, you need to use the domain\username format. For example, if your e-mail address is, type\ Your username is your full e-mail address.

    2. Password - use the password that you use to access your SMC account.

    3. Exchange Server - enter

  5. As soon as your phone verifies the server settings, the Account Options screen displays. The options available depend on the version of Android on your device. The options may include the following:

    1. Email checking frequency - the default value is Automatic (push). When you select this option, e-mail messages will be sent to your phone as they arrive. We recommend only selecting this option if you have an unlimited data plan.

    2. Amount to synchronize - this is the amount of mail you want to keep on your mobile phone. You can choose from several length options, including One day, Three days, and One week.

    3. Notify me when email arrives - if you select this option, your mobile phone will notify you when you receive a new e-mail message.

    4. Sync contacts from this account - if you select this option, your contacts will be synchronized between your phone and your account.

  6. Select Next and then type a name for this account and the name you want displayed when you send e-mail to others. Select Done to complete the e-mail setup and start using your account.

    Note: You may need to wait ten-to-fifteen minutes after you set up your account before you can send or receive e-mail.

Step-by-Step instructions for Blackberry Devices

(only for devices that support Outlook Web Access/Exchange)

  1. Launch "Email settings" on your phone.

  2. Click the "Set up another email account" link and then select "Other" from the list of options.

  3. Enter your Exchange Server 2010 email address and password in the space provided. Hit "Continue".

  4. Click "I will provide the settings" and then select "Outlook Web Access (Exchange)".

  5. Fill in all the required details and click "Continue". You have now set up your BlackBerry to use with the Exchange 2010 Server.
