All of your hard work and dedication have paid off and you are about to receive recognition for achieving your educational goal.

Commencement details are included here for your convenience.


Ceremony 

When: Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 6p.m.

Where: Corsair Field (football stadium) at Santa Monica College

Cost:  Free for all students and guests.  No tickets required.

*All graduates participating in the ceremony MUST sign-up in the Admissions office by June 1st, 2007.

Mandatory Rehearsal for Graduates

There will be a mandatory rehearsal for all graduates on Tuesday, June 12th at 11 a.m. at the Corsair Field (football stadium).  Only students taking final exams will be excused.  The rehearsal will prepare you for the evening ceremony.

Guests

You are encouraged to invite your family and friends to the Commencement Ceremony.  No tickets are required.  The entrance gates to Corsair Field will open at 4p.m.  Please encourage guests to arrive early to guarantee seating and to dress appropriately for the weather.

Disability Accommodations

Graduates who require disability accommodations for themselves or for their guests should contact Kiersten Elliott, Assistant Dean of Enrollment Services at 310-434-4173 at least two weeks prior to the event.  Please note that the bleachers at the stadium are not wheelchair accessible.  Wheelchair accommodations are available directly in front of the grand stand.

Parking and Directions

Parking will be free at the Santa Monica Campus on Commencement Day.  The stadium is located on the southwest side of the campus along 16th Street between Pearl street and Pico Boulevard.  For directions to our campus and for a campus map, please click HERE .

 

Restrooms are located at the stadium on the ground level underneath the guest seating.

Graduation Supplies

Caps, gowns, and honor sashes will be on sale in the Bookstore beginning May 1st, 2007.  The price for a cap and gown is $40 plus tax.  Those who are designated as honor students may purchase the honor sashes for $15.

 

Announcements and assorted gifts for the graduate are now available at the Bookstore.  For more details about ordering your cap and gown online, please go to: http://www.jostens.com

 

For your convenience, the Bookstore will be open from 8a.m.-7:15p.m. on the day of graduation.

 

DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE DAY OF THE EVENT TO GET YOUR CAP AND GOWN!

Honors Students

Honors students are indicated by a colored sash worn over their commencement robes.

Only graduates who have earned an A.A. degree with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher are eligible to receive an honors sash.

  • Sashes indicating students receiving Highest Honors (4.0 GPA) will be gold.

  • Sashes indicating students receiving High Honors (3.70- 3.99 GPA) will be silver.

  • Sashes indicating students receiving Honors (3.0-3.69 GPA) will be light blue.

Honors sashes may be purchased at the bookstore with appropriate documentation.

Diplomas

Diplomas are mailed to graduates as soon as they are available, usually within four months of the ceremony.  Your diploma will state that you have received an Associate of Arts degree from Santa Monica College with the date, the signature of the college president and the college seal.  It will also state if you graduated with honors.  Your diploma will not state your major nor your GPA.

Photos

Photos will be taken of every graduate as you receive your diploma cover.  On Commencement Day, you will be asked to complete the form on the back of your name card, and a free color proof will be mailed to you. Be sure to include your email and mailing address so that proofs and ordering information can be emailed to you within 24 hours of the ceremony.  Mail delivery is usually received within a week of the ceremony.  You are under not obligation to order.

Diploma Covers

Diploma covers are free to those graduates participating in Commencement.  Your diploma or certificate will be mailed to you unless you indicate you would like to pick it up at the Admissions and Records Office.  If you do not participate in the Commencement Ceremony, you may purchase a diploma cover in the Admissions Office after the semester ends.

All graduates, who participate in the graduation ceremony, receive a commemorative medallion.

Mid-year graduates are encouraged to participate in the Commencement Ceremony.

Summer Graduates

Summer school graduates are eligible and encouraged to participate.  The degree will be conferred after completion of all requirements.

Commencement Qualifications

Commencement qualifications can be obtained through the counseling office.  Make an early appointment with the Counseling Office to find out if you are eligible to participate in the ceremony.

Request for More Information

If you have filed a Petition for Graduation with the Admissions and Records Office by the deadline, you will receive an information packet in the mail in approximately 3 to 4 weeks after the Admissions office receives the petition.  If you have not received this information or need more information, please read the Frequently Asked Questions listed on this website.
