The Academic Senate's Career Technical Education (CTE) Committee establishes the forum for continually enhancing SMC's CTE programs.
The objectives of the Career Technical Education Committee are to:
- Establish a transparent process for CTE program development
- Enhance communication between CTE programs at SMC.
- Promote the development, expansion, and improvement of vocational education programs on campus
- Link VTEA funding with CTE program development.
Through regularly scheduled meetings the committee has:
- Surveyed existing vocational programs at SMC about their visions for the future
- Researched and discused industry trends
- Gathered and utilized labor market information
- Encouraged information-sharing and the leveraging of resources whenever possible
- Determined the necessary skills, student recruitment needs, and overall costs of establishing new programs
- Distributed VTEA funds
