Pharmacies & Drugstores Many medicines, which may be available for purchase over-the-counter in other countries, cannot be bought in the US without a prescription from an licensed doctor. Drugstores can fill a prescription the same day without an appointment, or provide over-the-counter remedies for common ailments such as colds, influenza, headache, or nausea.
