If you own a PC (Windows 9x or Windows 2000):
Select the icon My Computer usually in the upper left screen corner and double-click on the folder Control Panel.
Select the Network by double-clicking on the network icon in the Control Panel.
Open the Properties box for the TCP/IP network protocol:
Windows 2000:
a. Double-click Local Area Connection and Local Area Connection Status Window will show.
b. Single-click the Properties from Local Area Connection Status window.
c. In the Components Checked are used by this Connection field. Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
c. Once Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is selected, click on Properties box.
Windows 9x:
a. Select Configuration section and single-click on TCP/IP
b. Single-click on Properties from the Network window.
*Note: For Windows 95, the network component Client for Microsoft Networks must be installed.
Windows 2000
Windows 95/98
Set TCP/IP properties to automatically obtain an IP address from a DHCP server:
Windows 2000:
Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties box will display after Properties option is chosen.
Select options Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS Server address automatically.
Windows 9x:
Once inside the TCP/IP Properties box, select IP Address folder.
Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
Window 2000
Windows 9x
Single click on Apply and/or OK.
If you own a Macintosh:
Select the TCP/IP from the Apple menu in the upper left corner.

Select Ethernet from Connect via: in the TCP/IP menu.
Select Using DHCP Server from Configure in the TCP/IP menu. You do not have to set IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router Address, or Name server address.

Click Quit to close the TCP/IP menu.
Your laptop should now be set to use DHCP.
