    To Apply for Financial Aid 

1.
Apply electronically at
fafsa.ed.gov (Before you submit a FAFSA, you should apply for a pin  
    number.) Make sure to add SMC's Federal ID#:001286. 

    Note: Both applicants and parents of dependent students need to have a pin number.


2. Make sure that you have declared an appropriate educational goal at the Admissions and Records
    Office. 

     Note
: Only students working toward an AA degree, a vocational certificate, or on the transfer
              requirements to a 4-year school are eligible to receive Federal Aid at SMC.


3. Send official transcripts DIRECTLY to the SMC Financial Aid Office from all colleges and universities 
    that you have attended. 

     Note
: If SMC Admissions and Records has already received your academic transcripts you may skip
              this step.

4. You will receive a document request form, which will indicate what additional documents you need
    to submit to the Financial Aid Office.

    Note
: Please be sure your address is current in the Student Self-Service System at SMC.

    To Apply for a Board of Governor's (BOG) Fee Waiver

    You may also apply electronically for a BOG Enrollment Fee Waiver.

    Note: If you submit a FAFSA application, you will also be applying for a BOG Fee Waiver, however it
             may take the Department of Education up to 4 weeks to process your FAFSA application.
