Web Accessibilty Defined

Web accessibility refers to designing web pages so they are accessible to everyone including people with disabilities. There are federal standards for accessible web design which we all at SMC have a legal obligation to follow. Beyond our legal mandate, designing with accessibility in mind results in web pages that are more useful for everyone.

Creating Accessible Web Pages

To learn more about why accessible design is important and how to make your web page accessible, please navigate to Access Tips. This is a unit in Fac101, the eCollege course created by our faculty and staff to support our faculty designing distance education courses. Although Access Tips is within Fac101, its content is applicable to web design in general.

*The High Tech Training Center is the computer lab that supports students with disabilities. It is part of Disability Resources at Santa Monica College. At SMC we make every effort to make our campus fully accessible to students with disabilities. Our Center for Students with Disabilities offers guidance and counseling on admissions requirements and procedures, as well as a number of special programs to help students with their academic, vocational, and career planning goals. In addition, the Center offers services such as tutoring, specialized equipment, test proctoring, among many other accommodations for students who are eligible.
