About Software Maintenance Agreements:

Many software manufacturers sell software maintenance agreements, which must be bought at the time of purchase of the software license itself. Please buy these whenever possible! The agreement allows the College to receive all new versions of the software released during the time frame of the agreement. In addition, most agreements can be renewed prior to their expiration dates at the cost of the agreement only. For example, in spring 2002, a license for Macromedia Dreamweaver cost us $47 and a 2-year maintenance agreement cost another $30. So, we bought both for $77, paying $30 every two years. For $167 we have had immediate and free access to all upgrades ongoing for the past 6 years and saved a lot of money by not having to purchase a new license for every new version of DreamWeaver (currently owned by Adobe) which was developed. So, please be sure to ask about a software maintenance agreement whenever you are discussing software pricing with a vendor!

About Special Discounts:

Most software vendors offer special discounted pricing for educational institutions. In some cases, even greater discounts are available that have been negotiated for us by Larry Toy in the Foundation for California Community Colleges. Check out the website
