Application For Admission To Santa Monica College
Persons not enrolled at Santa Monica College must complete the application process for the semester he/she wishes to attend. Online-application submission.
If the SMC general education requirements in English and Math have not been met, students must arrange to take the assessment tests at the time of enrollment. Check with Admissions Department for specifics.
Application For Admission To SMC Nursing Program
- Students seeking admission to the Nursing Program are required to have two official copies of all transcripts from schools attended, including high school or GED equivalence. Students are responsible for submitting one to Health Sciences Department and one to Admission & Records Department. Official transcripts should be mailed directly to each of the above offices.
- Students are advised to make an appointment with a nursing counselor to develop an education plan and to evaluate transcripts from other schools.
- International students with transcripts from foreign universities may require additional transcript evaluation. Check with international student counseling for additional assistance.
- Students may apply for admission to the SMC Nursing Program after they have successfully completed all of the prerequisites.
- If the requirements have been met, call the Health Sciences department (310) 434-3450 or check website for application deadline dates & schedule application appointment. Bring all transcripts and grade reports to application appointment.

Once student has officially applied, his/her name will be placed on the waiting list.

Applicants accepted into the nursing program will receive an acceptance letter for either fall or spring semesters.
- Students should be prepared to spend approximately $1,000 the first semester for books, equipment and uniforms. The estimated cost of the entire nursing program over two years is $3,000 - $4,000.
Admissions Assessment
Prior to admission, all students who have submitted an application must also pass a diagnostic assessment test (basic math, English, reading, and science) in addition to meeting the requirements stated below. Students who fail to achieve a passing score will be required to complete additional pre-nursing readiness activities prior to admission and enrollment in the nursing program. Acceptance Procedure

Application selection is based upon completion of admission criteria, and completed file.

Approximately 40 students are accepted into the Nursing Program each fall & spring semester. Applicants will be notified by mail of their acceptance.

All applicants are responsible for keeping the Health Sciences Department informed of any changes that may affect their eligibility status. This includes official transcripts, change in address or phone, and any documentation that is essential for determination of readiness to begin the nursing program. Inactive files are destroyed after four semesters.
Advanced Placement
LVNs and/or transfer students must schedule an appointment with a nursing counselor in order to discuss their eligibility. Transfer students are required to meet the same standard for admission in addition to the following: successful completion of Nursing 19/transition class. There are limited spaces for this type of entry into the program.
