The Intersegmental General Education Core Curriculum...

Most SMC students who wish to transfer must go through this process.

Is it a good system to follow?

Or is it just a waste of time?

"I think it's good. This way it's required to be a more well-rounded person. It just makes you a better, more knowledgeable person."

- Elina Gadelev

"Absolutely. From my own experience, taking the general education classes, I'm finding out that I'm better in some areas that I never thought I was."

- Brad Goreski

"They're semi-necessary. It depends if you really know what you want to do. If you do, then I think that we should just be able to take whatever classes we want to."

- Lily Cutrono

"I think they're necessary, so that when people go to universities, they're not unprepared."

- Afshin Nahid

"I believe it's necessary. I think there should be more of those classes to choose from because they are so limited. I don't feel like some of the classes in general education can connect to what I'm doing."

- Victoria Kearnes

"I don't think they're very necessary. If you know what you want to do, like I do, I just have to take all these classes before I can even start studying what I want to study."

- Ashley Musick

"I think one of the problems of the IGETC is that you don't have to take English 2, which I think it should include."

- Nancy Corral

"Many of the classes you actually don't [use], and you never [use] them again."

- Jeffer Rivera
