Speed Bump
A car struck an unidentified Santa Monica College female student while she was crossing the main campus crosswalk across from Drescher Hall yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 12:25 p.m., the student approached the crosswalk, which was monitored by an SMC parking official. Students who witnessed the accident were not sure if the parking officer allowed her to cross, or if she crossed without his permission.

“We heard the impact of the girl hitting the car, and I looked over and she was on the hood of the car,” said student Keylee Holmes. “I saw the police talking to her, and she looked like she was hurt, but after about 20 minutes, she got up and she walked away.”

“The driver yelled at the officer saying that he didn’t tell her to stop,” said SMC student Komfort Akyempon. “Why do they have a freeway in the middle of the campus?”

According to Sgt. Kurt Trump, the victim refused medical attention, and left with the driver whom she knew.
“I’m glad it was not as serious as it could have been,” said Trump.

Woe Is Me
On Sept. 23, a young man fell ill. Literally. In the gym hallway a student wearing a white T-shirt and navy athletic pants started feeling woozy and fell. When the ambulance arrived the student was lying flat on his back with his arms spread out, according to police reports.

Students gathered and watched the felled student being taken away to St. John’s Hospital. The white T-shirt was taken to the cleaners. Both are expected to make a full recovery.
