| While walking through the fragrance filled flower gardens of the Alhambra and visiting the port where Christopher Columbus set sail to discover America, students can earn up to six units of University and/or California State University transferable credits in English and history. Darryl-Keith Ogata, director of International Programs, commented on the program by saying, "Studying abroad is a wonderful opportunity to see how different things are in other countries." When discussing the time of season the trip will take place, Cano said, "Winter is a great time to be in Spain, not only because of the low tourist rate, but also to experience the snow." Between scavenger hunts, adventures through infamous museums and exhilarating trips to the snowy mountains, students will have time to break away and venture on their own as well. According to Cano, for the price of $2,745, students will be provided with airfare, housing, planned tours and a variety of meals. Included in this package is also the opportunity to learn creative writing, art history, Spanish and much more. Since the study abroad is during the winter session, financial aid is available to those who apply. The courses and tours will be taught in English, so knowledge of the Spanish language is not a requirement. Although the Spanish department plans to give one unit to students through the independent studies course. Additionally, this program needs about 40 students to participate in order for this to proceed. A meeting will be held for those students with an initial interest in sharing this experience on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. in Dresher Hall room 310. For more information on the study abroad, contact Daniel Cano (310) 434-4522, Michael Soldatenko (310) 434-4503 or Darryl-Keith Ogata (310) 434-4159. |
