Multicultural Artists' Forthcoming Event

  • An upcoming Taiwanese Art Show is expected to attract an eccentric crowd of creative minds from around the globe. The international artists will display an array of traditional Asian art for the Santa Monica community.

Artists from Santa Monica College will have the opportunity to view the way international creators of art express themselves during the Taiwanese Art Show starting Sept. 13.

The event, Pursuit of Peace, will take place in the 18th Street Arts Complex building in Santa Monica.

The Arts Complex has a long history of bringing forth new international artists.

According to the Co-director of the Arts Complex, Clayton Campbell, different artists from all over the world come to live and work here for a period of four to six months.

Yi-Fan Chen, one of the participating artists in the event and currently a professor at the National Chang-hua University of Education in Taiwan, has been creating art for16 years.

Campbell explains that one immediate issue for international artists is the language barrier, but points out that since art is a visual language, it portrays no misleading grammar.

"What he will show at his studio the night of the opening will be a surprise," said Campbell. "We will have to wait and see."

This event will also feature work by Lita Albunquerque, Karen Bonfigli, Paul Botello, Robbie Conal, Stephen Curtis and many others.

The Taiwanese Art Show will continue until Nov. 1 and admission is free.
