Hit and Runs
A female driver carelessly hit a parked car and then fled the scene Thursday, according to an SMC parking officer who witnessed the incident.

After attending class the owner returned to her car that was parked on the 1st floor of parking structure C. She found a note from a SMC parking security officer explaining how an unknown driver hit her car and then drove off without leaving any information.

The same parking officer described the suspect’s vehicle as white and the driver as a female Asian. Moments later, the possible suspect was spotted exiting parking structure C and a parking security officer was able to get her license plate number.

After a search in the DMV computer files for the suspicious vehicle, there were discrepancies between the parking officer’s and the DMV’s vehicle descriptions. Due to lack of evidence and resources, the case remains unsolved.

Slippery Paint
An elderly art student at SMC stumbled and fell Thursday morning in class; he struck his face on the floor but was in no need of medical attention.

SMC police responded to a call Thursday morning about an 89-year-old man who had lost his balance and fallen on the floor. He hit his head on the carpeted floor but received no visible injuries except for a small bump and a scrape on the nose.

The police officer at the scene offered to transport him to the district’s nurse office for an examination, but he refused and claimed he was fine. The man then continued to work on his painting project.

Roll-up Your Windows
A potential thief became a profitable criminal Wednesday after snatching items claimed to be valued over $4000 from a parked car with a window rolled down.

The owner of the car returned to his vehicle only to find that he had left the front passenger side window down and that the car’s alarm had gone off. The suspect had easily entered the car through the open window, approximately rolled down 3/4 of the way, and then opened the front passenger door. There were no damages to the car.

The perpetrator then removed items valued to over $4000 including a cell phone, a diamond wedding ring of gold, a pair of Gucci sunglasses, a pair of Versace prescription sunglasses, a palm pilot, a Sony 35mm camera, and 2 Playstation controllers.

The car was parked on the second floor of parking structure C and was burglarized at some point between 3:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday. There are neither any known witnesses nor are there any known suspects for the incident.
