SUBJECT: Resolution for Merit System Position of Classified Senate
It is recommended that the Classified Senate ADOPT the following resolution concerning
the official Classified Senate position on the Merit System:
Whereas the Merit System affects all classified
employees and which profoundly impacts present and future classified employees and
Whereas the Classified Senate does not wish to
influence the way individual classified staff shall vote on whether or not to terminate
the Merit System and
Whereas the Classified Senate wishes to encourage
all classified employees to carefully consider all information provided through the
upcoming educational process and to participate in all discussions
Be it therefore resolved that in accordance with
the college goal of Mutual Respect and the desire to foster the free exchange of ideas and
open dialoge, the Classified Senate as an organization representing classified staff in
non-collective bargaining matters, will remain neutral and impartial on the termination of
the Merit System at Santa Monica College.
COMMENT:. The intent or spirit of this resolution does not in any wish to
prohibit Classified Senators or officers from participating in the sub-committees within
the education process.

SUBJECT: Sponsoring CARE Club Holiday Event
It is recommended that the Classified Senate APPROVE co-sponsoring the CARE Club's
Holiday Wish Tree
Comments: The Holiday Wish Tree will be a tree located in a secure designated
location decorated with individual ornaments. On these ornaments will be wishes of
children for the holiday season. Faculty, Classified, Administrators and students will be
encouraged to take an ornament from the tree and fill the wish.
The Executive Committee and all interested Senators would assist the CARE Club and provide support in the way of publicity, being a collection site for gifts, encouraging other campus organizations to support the event and lend other assistance as needed.
